Trend 1: Interactive Classrooms
No surprise, computer use in schools is up. According to the America’s Digital Schools Report for 2008, 78.7 percent of school districts across the country reported moderate to significant improvement in one-to-one computing programs. But while one-to-one computing initiatives are seeing an increase across the country, in our region “we’re also seeing schools put money that might normally go toward reducing student-to-computer ratios into interactive whiteboard (IWB) deployments,” says Rich McCoy, CompuLogic Practice Manager. Buried in E-records and Data? NASCIO's Report Provides Help Digging Out!
The National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO) recently released a report that confirmed states continue to struggle to meet the challenges of the overwhelming amount of official communications performed electronically. The report, Ready for the Challenge? State CIOs and Electronic Records, speaks to the importance of taking an enterprise-wide approach including a comprehensive informational technology governance structure to meet the challenge.
We are all aware of what is driving this issue to the top of the list, more state and local government business being conducted electronically, trend toward increased consolidation of state IT resources, recent amendments to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, vulnerability of essential electronic records during disasters, new electronic collaboration platforms, and increased emphasis on transparency and accountability in government.
